The Short Version

The holidays are our busiest volunteer season: lots of people, specific roles, specific times, multiple campuses, a short window. Rock's out-of-the-box tools don't quite fit a one-off campaign like that, and the third-party plugin we had relied on stopped meeting our needs.

So we asked what Rock could already do, and the answer was almost everything. We built a Helix (Lava Application) app on top of Groups and Group Scheduling that gives us:

• Public signup: volunteers pick a role, campus, and service time(s)
• Staff admin: ministry teams manage their own signups, no Rock admin access needed
• Status board: a real-time, printable view of volunteer coverage
