Rock RMS - Check Scanner

Is there any known issues with the Rock RMS check scanner? My Canon CR-L1 has not had any issues previously but not it says my scanner is not ready and I need to verify if it's powered on and connected, but it is.

Our CR-120 did the same, and it turned out that it had died, so I ordered a new one. Haven't had the time to send it to Canon for possible repair. I replaced cables, reset according to the support page, and still it wouldn't work.
