0 Basic Questions on Phone Numbers in Rock McKinley 4.4 1 Hock_Hin Lee posted 8 Years Ago I have setup/config the Phone Country Codes (1.) and have entered my phone numbers (2.). I can successfully call the numbers either via Skype on my computer or directly on my Mobile phone. The country code for Malaysia is actually +60, and all phone numbers in Malaysia start with 0. E.g., calling from overseas will dial +60165515585. Calling from Malaysia will dial 0165515585. Question #1. Since it so happens that our country code ends with 0, which is the same as the 0 prefix for local calls, I have set the country code to 6 instead of 60. Is this OK? This is because I need to start local dials with 0. Question #2. How is the Country Code for phone number used? (The 6 in the drop down list). Is it being used in my current version of Rock? .e.g. when clicking on the phone number to dial out using my mobile phone? Question #3. How can I set the default for the Country Code on Rock? Answer found in the Internationalization section of Rock Admin Hero Guide. "The phone country code listed at the top of the defined type list will become the default country code." Question #4. To call other countries, should I enter the full code as the Phone Number, e.g. to call Singaport I can dial 0065 9876 9876 ? (00 is Malaysia's standard for calling overseas, similar to the + which cannot be entered as part of the phone number. Answers to any of the above questions will be much appreciated. (Not necessary to answer all questions)
Hock_Hin Lee 8 years ago In Malaysia, we can either dial +65... or 0065... for international calls (to Singapore in this case). Because I could not enter the + sign for phone numbers in Rock, I am going to use the second option, i.e. the 00 prefix
Arran France 8 years ago You should use this tool https://www.twilio.com/lookup to find out what kind of formatting Twilio is expecting for the international version.
Hock_Hin Lee 8 years ago Twilio only recognise the +65... convention (which is the International convention with the advent of mobile phones). Whereas the 00 convention is basically for Malaysia as other countries use different numbers to call international. Use this to find the numeric sequence to dial internationally https://countrycode.org/how-to-call
Arran France 8 years ago Rock automatically adds the + to formatted numbers. You'll want to go with Twilio's convention. That's assuming you're planning on using them to provide your SMS functionality -- there may be a more competitive service in Malaysia.
