Directory

Is It possible to create and print a directory directly from this program?

While there is no specific "print directory" functionality in Rock, you should be able to leverage the document merge feature to merge your people/data into a printable Word doc. Rock has a pretty powerful merge capability. See here for more detail: http://www.rockrms.com/Rock/BookContent/9/64#mergedocuments

    Directory TEST.docx

Save this file and upload it to your Rock as a "Merge Template" and then merge the Report or DataView you want to display in the directory. Be sure to click "Combine Family Members" to print the directory by family.

I have not figured out a way to add photos yet, but I'm working on it. Otherwise, this is a relatively simple way to print families in a directory format for whatever groups you want.

Nate, I downloaded the merge template however it actually merges each family to one page each... is there some coding to add to the template that wouldn't break each family per page?

You will have to do a find and replace for the paragraph symbol in Word. That will make them show multiple families per page. It only takes a few seconds, so I have not tried to make Rock do it for me.

I'll throw in on this issue that Rock has a directory block in v6 that'll list people like a physically directory would, only electronically. You can format this to be suitable for printing.

I am trying to use this functionality but would like a bit different format. I am brand new to Rock and the coding you used in that test doc is like a foreign language to me. Have any of y'all worked on this and come out with anything else or with any improvements? We must have a printable directory for Rock to work.

I have also not really found any resource for learning the Lava that is in that test doc either.

Been able to make changes needed, however, when Combing Families, it stops sorting by name. Not sure what it is sorting by.

    Directory Merge (ORIGINAL).html

Here is an HTML merge that we are using when we need to print a member directory.

Thanks for this code! I am using it and modifying it to our desires. One question I have is: Why does it display (out of normal order) families where the "head of houshold" (the man) has been marked deceased? I have two families where the husband was a member, and has died since our implementation of ROCK, and for some reason it wants to display them first. They are not contained in the data view that I initiate the merge from. Any thoughts? I think I am going to put the question to the chat forum as well, but since you are familiar with the code, I thought I would ask you first.

The only thing I can figure is the Combine Families is pulling in everyone with each family no matter what. When we have a deceased person, we take them out of the family and have a known relationship back to the family. Keeps them from ever showing up.
