403 Error After "Flip the Switch"

Hello friends!

I am installing RockRMS on a new server. The whole process happened perfectly until I clicked the "Flip the Switch" button. Now, I just get a "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied." error.

I didn't get the login screen before the 403 error was shown.

We are hosting on Rackspace Cloud Sites. Windows Server 2012 R2 / IIS 8.5 / .NET 4.5 with MSSQL 2014.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks!

-Josh

Joshua, can you edit this question and provide a few details about your hosting environment? (Name, OS version, SQL version) For example, we know there are issues installing in Arvixe hosted environments and no longer recommend them for hosting.

    Hi Arran...

Thanks for following up on this.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to find out what the exact problem was. The issue was centered around the Rackspace cloud product we are using. The wonderful team at Spark was able to manually install RockRMS and get it working.

    Thanks!

Very late to the thread, but in case anyone else finds this useful, I just ran into these exact symptoms (albeit installing on Azure, not Rackspace). It seems that although "Default App Pool" was set to use "LocalSystem", the Rock AppPool reverted to "ApplicationPoolIdentity". So it didn't have the permissions it needed to finish installation. As soon as I set the Rock AppPool to use the correct identity, "Flip the switch" worked as expected.

Rock usually logs the cause of the problem somewhere.  So far, I have found error messages in (a) C:\inetpub\logs\Logfiles\W3SVC1\...  (b) contents of c:\inetpub\wwwroot\default.aspx (c) ExceptionLog table in the Rock SQL database.

Also remember to RESTORE your system to before the Rock Install as an unsuccessful install might have messed up some system settings

    Thank you for your response.

Unfortunately, we are installing on a cloud server and are not managing said server. I uploaded and ran the start.aspx as instructed and it appears something didn't work correctly with the install. We work on Macs in the agency and are using Rackspace server space. When I re-installed, I deleted the DB and started everything over on the server.

Have you experienced any issues when installing on a remote server?

    Thanks!
