Value of assigning an activity in Workflows

I understand that an activity can be assigned by Assign Activity From Attribute Value / Assign Activity to Group / Assign Activity to Person / Assign Activity to Security Role actions.  I see that this action will set the assignee of the current activity and that this will help distinguish who is responsible for ensuring that the activity is completed if there are manual steps to complete.  What I don't quite see (or understand) is the visible or useful value of that assignment.  Can I see this assignee someplace or more importantly, can I use that assignee in a workflow action to accomplish something else later?

    Well it didn't take long for me to find the answer to my question.  I see that the assignee shows up in Activities when I manage a workflow.  And I see that in a User Entry form "An optional system email that should be sent to the person or people assigned to this activity (Any System Email with a category of 'Workflow')."  So I guess I found my answer.  :-) This was fun
