Purpose

Anyone else as excited as I am to get the Form Builder feature into the hands of the staff?? Once I started kicking the tires on it, I noticed a few areas where improvement was necessary for our staff to really get behind it. Most notably was how to access the form. The Form Builder forms are just workflows, so the assumption is that you just use your built-in workflow entry page. However our staff wouldn't really know how to connect those dots, so with some help from Lava, I connected them for them. At the top of all of the Form Builder pages, you're presented with some helpful links:

  • View Filterable Submissions (coming in a separate recipe)
  • Preview Form
  • Copy URL

Preview Form and Copy URL are essentially the same, except one will take you to the form in a new window and the other copies the URL for the form builder to your clipboard. Follow the steps below to easily add this same functionality for your staff!

1. Create a Form Entry page on your External Site

In order for this to work, you'll have to create a page on the External Site where all form entries will be directed to.

  1. In Rock, go to Admin Tools > CMS Configuration, then click on Pages
  2. Create a new page in the page tree wherever it makes the most sense for your organization (ours is in External Homepage > Support Pages)
  3. Add a Workflow Entry block to the Main Zone and configure like the screenshot below

  5. Edit the page and paste this into the Page Routes box: Form,Form/{WorkflowTypeGuid}

2. Add the attached Lava file to your theme's Assets/Lava folder

The attached Lava file, which is FormBuilderHelpfulLinks.lava, needs to be added to your theme's Assets/Lava folder, which will be the Rock theme for most organizations. The reason behind adding a .lava file that we include on the page is because there are three different pages in the Form Builder feature, so if you make any changes to the code, this allows you to only have to change it in one spot.

3. Add an HTML block to the Feature zone of each of the Form Builder pages

These Form Builder pages are:

  • Form Submissions
  • Form Builder Detail
  • Form Analytics

Note: we moved our Form Builder link in the menu to a more intuitive place for our staff. By default I believe it is in the Tools/Workflow or People/Workflow page tree.

You will complete the following steps for each HTML block added to the Form Builder pages.
