We wanted to create a way that staff would know if they had any unread SMS Conversation messages, without having click through to the SMS Conversations page. I created a badge that would show on the header if the logged in person had any unread messages to a number that was assigned to them.  This turned out to be a pretty straightforward process. 

  1. Add an HTML block to the Header zone of your internal Rock site, make sure to enable SQL in the allowed Lava commands
  2. Copy/paste the contents from the attached file.

Once in place, this will show the communication bubble icon along with the number of unread messages.

With the included code, the icon won't show if:

  • The logged in person doesn't have any unread messages
  • The logged in person doesn't have a number assigned to them
  • The phone number assigned has SMS forwarding available.

Clicking the icon will take them to the SMS Conversations page, so if your page routes are different make sure to change the linked page in the code!
