Windows Check-in app on Windows Embedded

I'm pretty sure the answer to this is going to be, "Get newer devices". But it can't hurt to ask.

Our existing check-in stations are running Windows Embedded for POS (as seen below).

It looks like the Windows Check-in app for ROCK requires .Net Framework 4.5, which can't be installed on Embedded (also seen below, just for grins). Indeed, the latest .Net framework that can be installed on these devices, I believe, is the oddly-named POS for .NET v1.12. It was released in 2008, but I don't even know what the level of compatability is between this and what I presume to be it's contemporary 3.0 on the desktop - but either way, it's certainly older than 4.5.

Am I out of luck? Or is this app a thin enough wrapper for the /checkin site that something could be developed outside the .net framework?

Sorry to be "that guy" asking about ancient hardware...but their OS is actually still within their support lifecycle so they didn't get refreshed with the lingering XP machines last year...

    Michael,

Did you ever get any clarificiation on this?

I never heard if it was recompiled in 4.0, but I never got .Net to install on the kiosks at all. Probably would have taken a reformat and fresh install. We ended up purchasing new network printers...since we have a local install, we loaded Chrome on the Embedded Terminals and can use that to check-in now.

Thanks for the excellent supporting documentation on this. It seems from some quick reading that XPe should be able to run .Net 4.0. If you could confirm that on your device we'd be willing to try to compile the app to 4.0 (might need SP3). If it works we're all good.

Worse case you could run the checkin in the web browser. That would mean you'd have to print from the server and your printers would need to by networked.  Hopefully we get the client working for you, but just in case...

Let us know on the .net 4.0...

Sorry for the silence- GLS had us hopping last week. Windows Embedded is such a weird little world, I still haven't figured out all of it's nuances. I rarely give these stations the attention I should since they're locked down and rather single-purpose. But I couldn't find any indication of service packs being available for some reason through Windows Update. So I searched for SP3 for these systems and found what appears to be the correct install file from Microsoft- I'll try installing it ASAP then try .Net 4.0 and report back. Thanks for your attentions!

I'm not finding .Net 4.0 framework for WEPOS...it seems it exists for Embedded POSReady (circa 2009, IIRC) but not for WEPOS.
I'm a bit out of my depth here, but if someone can point me to something that shows me I'm wrong I'd love to hear it.
Looks like even XPEmbedded (which I think also came later) required a custom image to be built and installed which included it out-of-the-box, as it were. Not sure if that is an option for WEPOS though- everything seems to say that 4.0 was for later systems. =/

I now can see .Net 4.0 framework on Windows update, but both it and .Net 3.5 SP1 are failing to install. I'm going to continue troubleshooting, but let's assume that I can get .Net 4.0 installed. Please let me know whether it looks like it's going to be possible to recompile in 4.0
      Thanks!! =)
