Installer stuck at creating database

I've tried the install twice with two different DBs. The first got to Step 3: Creating Database - 1724 scripts to run. The second got just past that point to 20% of the scripts run and just sits there like it's processing, but I don't think it's supposed to take hours to install...

I'm running a free trial on smarterasp.net hosting... I just want to test this sucker out and I can't even get it installed. Maybe it's the host...?

Thanks!

I received the very same issue. It seemingly hangs at around 20%. I narrowed it down to my SQL Server installation, even though I could run through the entire install script manually on SQL Server, I had an issue with the installer. I was using an Azure Website with an Azure SQL Database. Replacing the Azure Website with a VM with the IIS role installed left me with the same problem. Only when I installed SQL Server on the same VM did the install finish completely.

If you run the install on the local server (which you will not be able to on shared hosting), then you will actually get an error message. My error was loading the Migration table which is about 80-90% of all the data in the install script. My guess is that there may be some sort of timeout when loading that large table.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble installing Rock... but I do think it's likely your host. The words "free trial" above lead me to wonder if that host is even capable of running Rock (or at least the installer, which demands quite a bit of resources.) The devs wrote about these issues recently and I'm guessing you're seeing problems similar to those. The reality is that Rock is an enterprise-class application and thus needs significant resources to both install and run well.

Short of someone (a core dev) running this down and working with the host to figure out what's wrong (and if it's even worth it if the experience post-install will be poor, anyway), you might check out the Rock demo site... it will give you a great idea of what Rock looks like without having to install anything.

Thanks guys, I've done a couple of fresh installs in the last week and experienced the same issue where the installation hung at 20% during Stage 3.

I'm so very grateful for the new version of the installer that was posted here - it worked like an absolute dream!

    Thanks again
