Mailgun Email Transport

I set up everything according to manual for the mailgun transport.  I tested an email, it said sent, but don't know where it went..I'm stuck.

    Hi Melissa,

Thank you for sending the information. I think I see what may be going on, and here is what I suggest.

Looking at the link you sent:
    https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:championscitychurch.org

...notice that all three SMTP servers are responsible for your email transport. A preferable configuration would be to set up Mailgun to handle a separate mail domain, i.e.

    Outlook (Microsoft) handles championscitychurch.org
    Mailgun handles mg.championscitychurch.org

Using my old employer as the example:

    https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:shepherdchurch.com
    https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:mg.shepherdchurch.com

(See how Mailgun is configured under the "mg." domain?)

If you check out Rock's set up instructions at the following link, scroll to where it discusses "On Behalf Of..." to see if that helps.
    https://community.rockrms.com/Rock/BookContent/8/#emailmailgun

Don't be shy with questions! I hope that helps,

    Hi Melissa,

it sounds as though you are referring to what Rock’s logs indicate. Can you indicate what  the logs from Mailgun suggest?

presuming all it set up correctly, Rock will look good and Mailgun will look good…. Perhaps the message landed in the anti-spam folder. With the detail above we can troubleshoot further.

Good Morning Jeremy, Thank you for your input.  Mailgun shows it delivered 1/1 100%.  I check my spam/junk folder, ( I have outlook) and nothing there.

    Interesting!

Can you past the outgoing log from Mailgun?

Do you have other recipient email address(es) you can attempt to send to through Rock -> Mailgun?

so I think it may be My Email server.  It does go to a gmail account i tried it with, but I have outlook and it's not going there... so maybe something with my outlook settings?

actually i take that back...it's not being received on my AOL email either

But I tried a first time guest workflow where the recipient would get an email and it worked to the Gmail account... so i'm pretty confused right now

    Hm.

can you confirm that the workflow email went thru Mailgun by reviewing the message headers?

aol is notoriously vigorous about screening email - that particular test may not have been conclusive.

we will get this figured out :-)

i can double check that.  But it's not just AOL, it's also my outlook.  :(

Hi Jeremy, So I was able to fix the problem regarding it going to other domain like aol, but still have the issue with the outlook.

I also reached out to Mailgun and this is what they suggested:

    Hello Melissa,

Thank you for contacting Mailgun support.

This issue is occurring due to the recipient domain having more than one email host/mailbox provider configured via its MX records:

    https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=mx:championscitychurch.org

For full details on how best to proceed in this scenario, we recommend reviewing this article [1], particularly this section: "Concerning 'To:' Recipients With More Than One MX Host/Provider"

Considering this is your domain however, you can remove Mailgun's MX records that are conflicting with what you have currently in place.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Regards,

    Anthony | Mailgun by Sinch

I read through the suggested articles, but I don't know how to go about it.  I reached out again, but they are in a different time zone so they don't get back right away.

Thank you, i will try that!   But I do have one question, will it say "On Behalf of" when I send an email?  will the recipient see that?

Thank you, i will try that! But I do have one question, will it say "On Behalf of" when I send an email? will the recipient see that?

It depends upon the mail reader program (i.e. Outlook) as well as your configuration. It doesn't have to.
I've pasted a sample image from what a recent email looks like from Shepherd Church below.

oh ok, it still does say your church name.  which is what i want.  not on behalf of ...

i guess i will try that configuration and see
