List people within a geo-fence

I'm finally returning to trying to get our pastoral districts and neighborhoods set up as geo-fences.

The goal is to be able to use Data Views (or other mechanism) to return a list of people meeting a set of criterion INCLUDING what region of the city they live in. For instance: Adults who are in a serving group and live within the "University Heights" neighborhood.

I have created geo-fence boundaries for several test neighborhoods in different ways:

- As a heirarchy of "Named Locations"

- As a heirarchy of "City Region" groups

When I go to create a data view, I can get a list of people whose "Home" address is within "1 mile" of our campus, for instance (which is defined as a "Named Location"). However, there is no way to get a list of people associated with a geo-fence defined location like the neighborhoods I've set up. I can select one of the "Named Locations" neighborhoods from the list, but 0 results are always returned. And I can't find ANY way to do anything with the "City Region" type groups other than view them on a map.

Last time I asked something similar to this, I thought that this was all coming with v3. Which makes me think I'm going about this the wrong way- should I be somewhere within the group toolbox...somehow?

Can someone shed any light on how to use these geo-fenced areas to pull out a list of people?

Thanks!

Rock v4.0 has a couple of new DataViews for items like this.  Specifically the "In Group Geofence" will tell you the people who live within the geofence of a Group (where Group is the area). I believe that's what you're looking for, right?

That's precisely what I'm looking for! Thanks. I'll be patient =)

Is setting up geo-fences on groups the best way to do it? (seems logical). Or the geo-fences in "Named Locations"? Or do they both work?

I would recommend groups as they allow you to define the leadership as group members and the study groups can be child groups.

    Hey Michael,

I submitted a couple questions like this back in March although the original question was from June (2014).  Take a look at the developer's answer and see if that's what you're looking for.

I'm very interested in seeing the functionality you described in Rock.

    Hope that helps!

As a side note, I'd recommend submitting a feature request for this. Put the bug in their eye to make this happen!

Are you reading it the same as me- there's no geo-fence person dataview filter for people within a geo-fence, so this is not (yet?) possible in Rock?

Thanks for the link to your existing question.
