Payment Error [1] User authentication failed: Recurring Billing

We are testing the "Giving" functionality on the External Web site and have successfully processed one-time gifts in the live environment.  However, I consistently receive the above error anytime I attempt to create a "scheduled transaction."  Please note te following:

  • We are utilizing Payflow Pro for our gateway
  • The default setting in PayPal Manager has been changed to "Allow Reference Transactions."
  • The donor payment information "payment account" is identical in all cases ("one-time" AND "scheduled").

While not necessarily germane to this concern, we do not see "Payment Accounts" as a Giving page menu item; we are running v3.4, I have saved my payment information and it appears when I am logged in and attempt to create a new "Giving Profile."

I'm not against it at all... it was not an option until today.  That said, it would give me confidence to know what specific fix or enhancement was executed in v4 that would address this particular concern.  In the meantime, I need to upgrade our SQL Server... ours is not supported by v4.

Hey David, we had this issue early on in our implementaion too - the Recurring billing feature isn't enabled automatically when you set up a PayFlow Pro account.  We had to contact PayFlow Pro and have them manually enable that for us, then everything worked just fine  (to verify, make sure the status of Recurring Billing is Live in the PayFlow Manager: 2016-01-14 14_52_23-PayPal Manager.png)

As for your second issue, can you clarify more?  You aren't seeing your saved payment information on the GiveNow page (TransactionEntry block) even though you are logged in?

I added recurring billing via PayFlow Manager yesterday, re-verified the reference transactions were allowed in security settings and, as of today,

I'm still receiving same payment error message.  I'll try calling them next week to see what is still missing.  With regard to the "Payment Accounts," the Rock manual shows the following "Giving" child pages on the external Web site:

    • Give Now
    • Giving History
    • Manage Giving Profiles
    • Pledge
    • Payment Accounts

This last page menu item does not appear on our External Web site when I am logged in.  Further, when I click on PERSON PROFILE | CONTRIBUTIONS in the RMS, I do not see the "Summary of Contributions" sections nor the buttons for "Add One-Time Gift" and "New Scheduled Transaction" as displayed in the current Rock Manual.  Finally, when I click on the "+" button in the "Scheduled Transactions" list, I receive the following error:

    Configuration Error

Please check the configuration of this block and make sure a valid Credit Card and/or ACH Financial Gateway has been selected.

This is confusing since I can successfully process One-Time transactions for the same person on the External Web site.  My credit card appears to be "stored" somewhere since I can select to create a new giving profile... I just can't see it anywhere else (External site, RMS Contributions tab, or otherwise).

Dave, we have already updated the documentation on the Rock website for the upcoming v4.0 update. The options you are referring to are new to v4.0. When viewing the documentation online though, you can easily switch back to the v3.0 documentation using the "Current Version" selector at the top of each book.

    BUMP.

PayPal directed me back to Spark/Rock; they do not see any recurring payment transactions being presented to the gateway.  This makes sense to me given the above error occurs both when I attempt to "Give Now" and when I try to "Manage Giving Profile."  I'm inclined to think that the configuration error noted directly above may be germane, but not able to connect the dots.

    Hey Dave,

Based on the error above, open the block settings and see what the Gateway is set to (Make sure it's on PayFlow Pro).  If it isn't, set it to that and try again. If it is, let me know and we'll go from there.

Thanks for sticking with me on this Bronson.  Regretfully, PayflowPro is configured on both the RMS UI [Home | System Settings | Financial Gateways] and the giving page block properties.  Since I have been able to process same day "ONE TIME" gifts on multiple occasions, I would have expected this to be the case.  The error is only presented when I try to process "SCHEDULED TRANSACTIONS" (e.g., recurring gifts) or one-time gifts for a future date.

Hey Dave, are you against upgrading to Rock v4.1?  It was officially released today and I think that might be a good next step.
