Four Reasons We Need Community Published Mar 4, 2016 We need each other. A book published a few years ago for churches about social media and the journey from paper publishing to Google points out that churches (and all groups) are much less successful in attracting and keeping members if they don't provide equally for their members to receive something of value and to contribute something of value. Thatʼs true, but we don't think we can stop there. Here are the four reasons we believe we need community and how we've built it into Rock RMS: 1. We Need to Contribute Our knowledge is no good if we keep it to ourselves. Jesus told us, "it is more blessed to give than to receive." Hereʼs a great example of the Rock community contributing knowledge and help online. 2. We Need to Receive We should also be open to being mentored so we can improve and begin to give back to someone else. Really this giving and receiving thing is a big cycle of mentorship once you get involved. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” - Proverbs 27:17 Here is a great example of a Rock community member being open to help. 3. We Need to Celebrate The steps we make = the journey we take. We need to enjoy our successes together and celebrate the innovations as we go. Think hope. Think encouragement. And with Rock, we think Slack. This recent conversation on Slack is a key example: "Looking for prayer for MCC this week. We have a lot coming up. In a few minutes I am updating our DNS records to move our public site to Rock and then this Sunday we are launching our 2nd service which mean new check-in schedules, which for some reason have tripped me up in the past. Pray everything goes smoothly." "For sure." "Awesome. We’ll be praying for you guys." 4. We Are The Church The bottom line is, we are created for community. We just can't make it on our own. Not if we want the full life God intends for us; this is His gift and His calling. "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25 Join the community happening now in Rock, the innovation toolkit for the modern-day church. You can give, you can receive, you can celebrate with the Church. We think you'll fit right in.
