Rock’s Sign Up Feature Brings Northside Christian Church Support to Single Mother

Sometimes, in the middle of what seems like a hard season, God uses technology to connect people in amazing ways. We were recently notified about how the Sign Up feature in Rock was used to step in to help in the middle of a hard season for a single mother. Northside Christian Church used the Sign Up feature on Rock to create a “Project Finder” where members of their church can search for opportunities to meet specific needs within the community.

Leah from Northside Christian Chruch shares the story of a single mother with no extended family, an abusive ex-husband and full custody of her children finding herself in trouble when she noticed that her basement had been flooded with over a foot of water. With the home now unlivable, she sent her kids to live with their father, which was not ideal because of the abuse and she moved into her car. She spoke to a neighbor who took action immediately. The neighbor contacted a local outreach organization that was partnered with Northside Chrisitan Church. From there, Northside was able to set up Sign Ups to fill positions for specific projects that the single mother needed.

Not only was the basement emptied and cleaned up, but Northside Christian Church spent an entire Saturday helping this single mother transform her home and get it back up to liveable conditions. The sign up forms asked for help in basement cleanup, clearing up the front yard from debris, clearing the carpet on the inside and financial help with basic home needs. Once all was completed, for the first time in 5 months, this single mother and her children were able to move back into their home.

Sometimes we do not see Rockʼs impact, but when used correctly there can be huge impacts on a community. Rock allows users to take out-of-the-box systems like Sign Ups and create something amazing like Northside Christian Church did by creating Project Finders.
