Hidden Person records

Core

We need the ability to have some person records be invisible to searches, duplicate finder, etc. but still be stored in the system for reference. We have customized our instance of Rock to allow this, but our implementation isn't great and I believe it would be a useful feature for all to use. Here are the instances we have used it for:

  • "Soft delete" of a profile we believe to be junk data. Currently the only way to get rid of a profile is to merge it with another record, but there have been many occasions where we have later found that the victim record was valid and unique and had no easy way to restore it.
  • We host some events where we know we will have large-scale signups from the public whose data we don't want to add to our permanent database (concerts, seed packing, student dodge ball tournaments, etc.), or where we don't want to require that they give us their full information to register. We still attempt to match to a real person, but any new records created by these registrations are hidden and only accessible from the registration.
