Hide Family Name On Check-in Screen if No One in Family Can Check-In

Check-in

We have noticed that when a phone number is entered to search for the family that needs to be checked in, any family group with that phone number will be displayed, regardless of whether or not an individual in that family is able to check-in. This doesn't seem like a big deal at first, because you assume that each family / individual's name will only display once, making it very obvious which family to click.

The Problem

However: we are finding that duplicate records created by registrations are creating an issue for Kids Check-in on Sunday, because:

  • The master records and duplicate records are all showing due to a phone number match.
  • Our Data Integrity staff isn't able to clean these duplicates up as quickly as they are made. (Though they make a valiant effort!)
  • Our members aren't looking closely enough at the screen to see that their Family is listed multiple times.
  • Our members consequently click the same duplicate family over and over, and get frustrated every time the "No One in this family can check-in" notification pops up.
  • Every Kids Worker staff/volunteer doesn't understand how duplicates are affecting the check-in system, and those that do understand might not be aware that someone is having an issue in the lobby to offer their guidance.

The Solution

Simply adding some code to hide families where no one is able to check-in from displaying on the Family List will add tremendous value to the Check-in Process for our church. (And I'm sure the many other churches that struggle with the same data integrity issues that we do will appreciate this, too!)
