Check-in Configuration Option for "Keep Kid in Class"

Check-in

Core Functionality

Rock is designed to prioritize keeping kids in a single classroom when they are checking into multiple schedules. This functionality will override other location selection strategies (Fill in Order and Balance).

Potential Issues

Our church has 3 services on Sunday morning. The first two generally having more kids attending than the last, as a result of this we have different classrooms open at the 3rd service because some grades are combined. We use the Fill in Order strategy to fill our classrooms. When a child's regular classroom is full, there is a rollover room available for them to go to.

So we end up with locations that look like this:

1st & 2nd Services

  • Kindergarten
  • 1st Grade
  • K/1 Rollover

3rd Service

  • K/1
  • K/1 Rollover
Expected Behavior for Fill in Order

A Kindergartner checking in to 2nd and 3rd services would go to Kindergarten for 2nd service, and K/1 for 3rd service. They would only go to the rollover room if one of those classes was already full.

Actual Behavior

The child is checked into K/1 Rollover for both services because it is the only location available at all their schedules.

If your church prioritizes a child being in the correct room over staying in the same room for all schedules, the core functionality is not the behavior you are wanting.

Proposed Solution

Have "Keep Child in Classroom" a configurable option in your check-in configuration to determine if that behavior should override another selection strategy. If turned off, the selection strategy of Balance or Fill in Order would take precedence.
