Date Formatting for Exports to Excel

Date Formatting for Exports to Excel

Core

In every grid where there’s an option to export results to Excel, Rock exports date fields as text (or custom fields that behave like text), rather than as proper date fields. This causes issues when trying to sort the spreadsheet by date, as the sorting doesn’t work correctly (See the example of what it's like to sort by birthdate below).

While there are workarounds in Excel, such as using formulas or advanced formatting options, these solutions require a level of expertise many users may not have. For those unfamiliar or untrained, it can be confusing and frustrating to deal with these types of data issues.

If Rock exported data into Excel with formatting that matched the corresponding data types natively, this problem would be resolved, and users wouldn’t need to perform additional steps. (Having a similar principle apply to other types of fields for example money would be ideal as well)
