Allow Margin (or Vertical Gap) Between Stacked Columns in the Email Builder

Allow Margin (or Vertical Gap) Between Stacked Columns in the Email Builder

Communication

Description:

When using multi-column layouts in the new Email Builder with Responsive Column Stacking enabled, vertically stacked columns have no spacing between them. While padding is available, there is no way to add margin or vertical gap between columns once they stack. This makes responsive emails harder to read and visually distinguish on smaller devices.

Additional Details:

The Email Builder currently supports:

  • Padding on individual columns
  • A “Gap Between Columns” setting for side-by-side columns

However:

  • There is no margin setting on individual columns
  • The “Gap Between Columns” setting does not apply when columns stack responsively

Suggested options:

  • Allowing margin on individual columns
  • Applying the existing “Gap Between Columns” setting vertically when columns are stacked
  • Introducing a separate “Gap Between Stacked Columns” or “Vertical Column Spacing” option

This should only affect stacked layouts and not change current behavior on larger screen resolutions.

Ministry Need / Why:

We rely heavily on email communication for announcements, events, etc. A large portion of recipients read emails on mobile devices, where responsive column stacking is enabled.

When stacked columns have no visual separation, content feels cramped and harder to scan and sections blend together.
