Shortcode failure in calendar event detail block

Shortcode in calendar event detail code editor displays code rather than calculating the requested info (registration count). Shortcode works when using on a test web page. What am I missing? Is there something that needs to be checked in the Calendar Event Block(s) to allow the shortcode to function?
