Scanning Checks Using Cannon CR50

We've been using the Canon CR50 scanner for the last couple weeks to load checks and tithe envelopes into Rock. For the most part it works really well. We load the checks in under checks and the tithe envelopes in under cash. But every now and then the scanner wont pull the check number and/or the bank account number from the check.. This throws everything off if they're a regular giver because next week the sytem will declare that a check with that number is already loaded and the best I can tell there isn't any way to manually enter the check number. Any suggestions?

Cody, could you walk me through what happens with the scanner?  I'm not quite sure what you mean.  When you scan a check, and it doesn't pull in the check number and/or bank account, does the UI show you a "WARNING: Check account information.." for that check? If so, when a different check from that same person is scanned the next week, does it complain about a duplicate?  It is only supposed to complain about duplicates if there a full match on RoutingNumber + AccountNumber + CheckNumber.

This only happens with a couple checks but the individuals are the same each week. When there check goes through it pulls in the Routing Number 01010101 and the Account Number 01010101 (These don't change) but for the Check Number it leaves it blank. So next week it sees Routing Number 01010101 and Account Number 01010101 and Check Number blank. Now the system says that's a duplicate because a blank check number already exists. I can run the check through the scanner till my clothes go out of style (I like to think I wear timeless classics so it would be a long time) but the scanner will not read the check number. I can't find any way to manually enter the check number so the only option I have at this point is to scan the check in as cash (if I want an image. I know I can always manually add a transaction).

Something else that may help is that when the scanner reads the account and routing number from these "problem checks" it doesn't read this right either. It only gets 3 or 5 digits of the numbers. The important thing is that its consistent. It may be a bug or it may just be a technology limitation that can be adjusted for by allowing the administrator to adjust the scanned information manually.
