Do scanned check routing numbers get associated with people?

Our accountant has a question before we purchase a new check scanner (our existing one is supposed to be supported but nobody will provide the required drivers to the end user- but that's a topic from my other post).

The first time we scan a batch of checks, we're obviously going to use the dialogue shown in On site collection to assign the contribution to a person in the database, including searching for and selecting the person who wrote the check. But since the routing number is detected by the scanning software, will that person/family be automatically selected when subsequent checks with the same routing number is scanned (that is, in following weeks)? The manual doesn't say either way, so I'd assumed not, but she tells me that's extremely common with such scanning software and she would be surprised if it didn't.

At any rate, if it does, it absolutely justifies the expense of an additional scanner. So I was just hoping someone with experience could clarify whether that takes place or not.

Thanks!

The person will be matched, and remembered, to the check's MICR information. We've added a bit more information to the documentation to clarify this.
