Is .NET 4.5.1 required just to APPLY latest upgrade, or also to USE Rock?

Sadly, we're still in the stone age, using Windows XP.  .NET 4.5.1 apparently doesn't run on Windows XP.

Can someone confirm if Rock now needs this to run, or is it just the upgrade to 0.5 that needs it?

Can't say for certain, but I'm pretty sure you need 4.5.1 to run Rock from 0.5 onward. According to a tweet from one of the devs last week "Heads up @TheRockRMS Testers! Rock v0.5 requires you have .Net 4.5.1. Put this in your webroot to test your Rock http://t.co/hOIrXBlKD7"

I can't imagine that they would make the requirement apply only to the installer, as you can't really separate the installer from Rock itself, anyway.

I would also be wary about trying to run Rock on XP, even without the .NET issue... there are just too many gotchas that will creep up on you compared to a real server OS, the fact that XP is now end of life without any more security patches being just one of them.

Just to clarify, we're only talking about the server here -- not the user's client computers. Users can still have Windows XP when accessing Rock and the client computers don't need any .Net to run (they just need a good, solid, modern browser).
