Can Rock run on Windows Server 2008 (not Windows Server 2008 R2)

Windows Server 2008 (not R2) is the last server version for 32bit hardware.  Windows 2008 R2 and onwards require 64 bit hardware.  I am trying to install Rock on a 32 bit hardware.

The Rock Solid Internal Hosting manual mentions Windows Server 2008 (not distinguishing R2 and non-R2 version.)

From the table on .Net history in Wikipedia

.Net 3.5 is for Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have installed Windows Server 2008, did all the system prompted upgrades and cannot Find/Add the .Net Framework 3.5.1 Features.  I can only find the .Net Framework 3.0 Features

Is there a way forward from where I am?

The Windows Server Add Features Wizard only shows components that are distributed as part of the Windows Server install.
This does not prevent you from installing later versions of the .NET framework separately - you can just download them directly from the Microsoft site.

I'm fairly certain that the Rock install guide doesn't specify R2 because it isn't required.
Rock v4 requires SQL Server 2012 to run, and my understanding is that this can be installed on Window Server 2008 (SP2 required, but not R2).

After more than a week of effort on Windows Server 2008 (32 bit) with the end not in sight, I did the Rock install on a 64 bit machine with Windows Server 2012 (not Windows Server 2012 R2) in a most straight-forward manner.  Keeping Exactly to the recommended software is the best way forward.
