Workflow Communication Prefence

So I've created a workflow to send prayer requests out to our "Prayer Chain" (a communication list) and the last part I'm getting stuck at is ONLY sending to the recipient's communication preference. Currently I have 2 different actions ("Send Communication" & "send SMS") so a recipient receives both an email and an SMS.

Any way you see around this?

I don't believe there is any way around this, short of a RunSQL action that looks-up the preference and sets a workflow attribute so you can filter your actions on that. I think the actions would need to be enhanced to support communications preference, which is a good https://community.rockrms.com/ideas
