How to Read a Wach Map

The format for media watch maps can be confusing. For the most part you don't need to know the format, but for those interested here's how the internals work.

Below is a sample of the contents of a watch map:

"WatchMap": "851,222,4601,5720"

Each segment, separated by a comma, represents two components. The last digit is the number of times the segment was watched while the remainder is the number of seconds. Let's take the example above and unpack it.

  1. The first 85 seconds where watched once.
  2. The next 22 seconds were watched twice.
  3. The following 460 seconds were watched once.
  4. The remaining 572 seconds where not watched.
