    Use PBX CDR Records

A PBX, or Private Branch Exchange, is a telephone system in an organization that switches calls between people in that organization on local lines while allowing them to share several external phone lines. In short, it allows Rock to talk to the phones within your organization. PBX CDR Records downloads phone call detail records for the calls made on those phones and stores them in interaction tables. This valuable data helps you map the real-life relationships that exist within your organization. It also allows you to use click-to-call technology, where Rock places your calls for you with the click of a button.

You'll need a plug-in to let Rock talk to your phone system. You can write your own, or you can use one of the plugins available in the Rock Shop, such as Digium Switchvox. Additional PBX plugins will be added as this technology becomes more widely used.

    Set up a phone system

    1. Install the plugin for your phone system. Rock doesn't include one, so the list on the Phone Systems page stays empty until you do.
    2. Go to Admin Tools > Settings > Phone Systems and select your phone system. Set Active to Yes, choose the Internal Phone Type your staff's desk phone numbers are saved under (such as Work), then select Save.
    3. Go to Admin Tools > Settings > Jobs Administration and add a new job, since Rock doesn't create this one for you. Set Job Type to Pbx Cdr Download and PBX Component to your phone system, then enter a Cron Expression for when the job should run. For help with job settings, see Configure a Job.

Once your phone system is active, phone numbers on the Person Profile become click-to-call links if your phone system supports it. Select a number and your phone system places the call for you. The Enable Call Origination setting on the Person Bio block controls these links and is on by default.

    Find your call data

Each time the job runs, Rock asks your phone system for the calls made since the job's last successful run. Rock includes a PBX CDR Records channel in Interactions for this call data. To browse it, go to Tools > Interactions and select PBX CDR Records.
