    Use Rock Logs

Rock provides a simple, easy to use logging tool. Most of the time you won't need this but having logs can be helpful when troubleshooting or researching. The Rock Log is similar to the Exception List, except you can track more than just errors.

Logs are turned off by default, and typically should only be turned on if there is a specific need. To turn on logging, go to Admin Tools > Settings > Rock Logs and select Edit on the Log Settings panel. Choose a Verbosity Level, pick one or more Categories to Log, check Log to Local File System and select Save. You have the following choices for the Verbosity Level. Rock records the level you pick plus every more severe level:

    • Trace: The most detailed messages. These can include sensitive data, so don’t leave this level on.
    • Debug: Detailed information that helps when investigating a problem.
    • Information: Messages that track the general flow of Rock.
    • Warning: Unexpected events that don’t stop Rock from running.
    • Error: Failures that stop the current task but not Rock as a whole.
    • Critical: Failures that need immediate attention, such as a crash.
    • None: No logging.

Rock writes entries to App_Data\Logs\Rock.log on your web server and shows them in the Logs list on the same page, with the Date, Level, Category and Message of each entry. When an entry includes an exception, select the ti ti-bug icon on its row to see it. Select the ti ti-download icon to download the log files.
